The Killer brew of Kenyans Youth.

The other day i was in my rural home town Elburgon, within Nakuru county in rift valley province.  It was around 14.00hrs GMT and we were having a cup of tea at Alfa cafe restaurant as it was raining and cold, Elburgon is about 1850m above sea level and its among the cold part over this season in Kenya.I was two other friends and we were talking general talks about current affairs when two young men came and greeted us. As African we are used in greeting each other with hands and shaking with a good grip but in this case, one of my  friend refused to shake this guys hands and we followed the suit.

This was during one of the many burials taking place due to illicit brew taking in Elburgon

I asked him why he did that, and he responded, " man, did you see this guys palms, it seems as if for the last one month this guys have not washed them, i think time has come when people should not be shaking hands as its becoming common to see people who cares less about their bodies and prefers taking the cheap liquor" he said. This cheap liquor has done total damages to young people of this nation to a point where its should be proclaimed as a national disaster.

From where we were seated we counted more than 20 people both young and old, male and female whom by the way  talking you could tell, for the better of the day they were taking the illicit brew, commonly known as chang'aa.

Back in 1970s till 2002, local liquor commonly called chang'aa here in Kenya(different communities have their own names), was not allowed by law. If caught drinking, you and the seller were arrested and taken to court of law and likely jailed.

In 2002, when the powerful KANU government was removed from power by NARC government, the illicit brew act was changed and was legalised. This was the beginning of a doomed youth generation in Kenya.
In 2005 women from central province started demonstrating on roads as their husbands had become zombies in bed. There were claims that even young men were not performing and young children population was in decrease. People thought that this was a joke, but with time the situation got bad and the fruits of this liquor is all over in  Kenya.
What amazes me is that, we all know,  in our African culture liquor was meant for certain age and for certain ceremonies. The current situation is different with all age groups men and women taking this liquor at any giving time either in the morning, day or night. This is crazy, instead of people working, you will find them busy around dens where the liquor is sold.

Our elders (wazee),used to take liquors but it never happened  a day that he will urinate on himself or sleep in a ditch because he cannot be able to go home. During those days, our fathers married more than one wife and were able to father children with all of them and mostly one wife would have not less than six children.
Our fore fathers were very strong men and could trek tens of miles and be able to come back home and do their home duties with great precise. There was respect for men with many children.

The current situation is so pathetic, this young men cannot even satisfy one wife. We have seen newscast where young beautiful girls claims that their husbands has not slept with them for over a year yet they(wives) have feelings. There are some isolated cases where father in law has come to the rescue of his name and clan by offering the needed service on behalf of their zombie son.

In the morning, if you take a look in areas that this illicit brew is sold you will come across men and women both young and old standing at strategic points looking for any person that pass-by whom they can borrow some few coins.

Most of them ask for as little as Sh. 10.00(Approx $0.125). If you happen to ask for what purpose, they will try and answer, he/she has some few coins he/she wants to add together and buy some food. The worst can happen if you tell him that you want to buy the food for him rather than give the coins. He will give funny excuses that he knows where there is better and cheaper foods and its not safe for you to go there.

If you give him the coin and after 10 Min's you happen to see him, you will be astonished with the new look, he will be totally drunk and talking all manner of words and falling down. Due to the strong effect of this liquor, these people do not wash they cloths neither bath. Their body has a very bad odour and cloths are tattered.

Its unfortunate that this liquor was legalised and it has taken too long to see the effects on youths.
Families have separated due to this liquor, school going children have dropped out as their father and mothers cannot be able to work properly and pay school fees.In the end we have some of those children going the same way and starting to take the same liquor, and another lost generation line starts.

I salute Naivasha member of parliament(Hon. Motutho), for coming up with  what is called Motutho rules.I think this is one thing that we shall remember you did for this country.

Can someone tell me weather truly this is liquor or its an idea to eliminate our youth, how can a glass of this concoction drive someone crazy with a span of 10mins to appoint of urinating in an open market, children watching and not have a second thoughts what he is doing. This guys can say any word on earth without a brick of an eye or shame that his mother/father might be around.

Whoever came with "cheap liquor idea", you have destroyed our future generations for good. What kind of monster you are, making young mothers kill their children aged even months by not taking care of them. We Kenyans regret the day you were born and we wish that you will varnish and never be recalled  by anyone.
I feel pain when children who are supposed to be in schools are not due to negret from their parents who have taken liquor drinking as part of their dairy duties instead of working and educating their children. There is going to be a gap of  generations in future as people who are supposed to father and continue the generations tread are busy drinking this liquor and killing their capability to be fathers.

Apart from that, economy wise, this has taken a nose dive in agricultural sectors, farms are empty, no one is working in them. Older people are getting employed as the young once has  failed in education and cannot qualify in few vacancies available. This is affecting the country as a whole and within a short period, we shall have our lovely Kenya in world map  for country with very poor economy and fewer people.
The government must come forward and make sure that Motutho rules are effected properly and heavy punishments for the culprits, failier to this, the current government will be remembered as one that failed to protect its citizen from greedy rich businessmen who are behind this business.

Its my wish that one day our lovely Kenya will be once again health nation with people taking control of their drinking habits.
Bravo Kenya i love you  and i want the best for you.
Adios.

Well Said! The government can also offer incentives to local manufacturers of such brews as mnazi, muratina and busaa. These brews if manufactured hygienically without any harassment from security authorities can be marginally taxed by the government and sold legally.
